Fantassin, with AB, lead the pack in size, being more accurately described as 18 mm, than 15. This fusilier measures a full 17 mm from boot to eye and is much bulkier than his AB counterpart. Overall, Fantassin have a very broad range and quite a lot of variety. They are sold in packs containing a single pose and are modestly priced. They definitely have a more rugged style than AB, but are just as detailed.

The details here, as with all of the figures in this range I’ve seen, are generally quite good. They do suffer, however, from generally narrow backpacks as seen here. I don;t know why this is, but most of their backpacks seem about 20% too narrow. The detail is of moderate contrast. All of the straps for the backpack and canteen are raised detail, as are cuffs and musket hoops. There is no molded cording on the trousers and the cuffs are only slightly raised from the sleeves. The face has good detail, with a nice mustache. The musket is a bit rough, however. The barrel is rather uneven, instead of being smooth.

Overall proportions are also very good with Fantassin. The hands and feet are nicely sized, and the limbs are all in proportion to the torso. The head is also in scale.

The pose is energetic and has a nice line. The advance is obviously quick, but there’s no hint of panic or of a breakneck, stumbling pace. (Ordinarily I would trim away the bit connecting his right foot to the base, but if he’ll be seeing active service, it should be kept for durability).

Overall, a very nice, very complete line of figures.
