Some months ago, Tom Dye at GFI/Minifigs sent me a package full of packs from their 10mm Vietnam range. Included in the package were US and Communist troops, civilians and several vehicles. The range can be purchased by clicking here.
This is a really nice range. The figures are very nicely sculpted, cleanly cast (as all Minifigs products are), and I found the infantry very easy to paint. They have a great level of detail - enough that you can tell a blooper from an M-16 from an AK-47 but not so much they are impossible to paint. They are generally very well proportioned and come in a nice variety of poses. Of all the packs I went through each had 7 or 8 unique poses. The pictures you see below show one from each pack.
In fact my only criticism is that some of the parts are so thin they may be prone to breakage with normal game handling. You’ll see in one of the better US photos I lost one figure at the ankles just between photo shoots. The same may be said of various parts of the Huey - the skids and rotors just look too fragile. You certainly would have to base the Huey as there is no way those skids will hold up the metal body of that chopper. A dry run of assembly found only minor filing/filler would be needed to get a good looking kit.
The M-113s are especially nice models though why you would want a removable roof and detailed interior in this scale is beyond me. Still, if you’re up to painting detail in small spaces you’ll certainly amaze your friends! A dry assembly found the kits went together well with little filing needed. A modest amount of filler/putty would be need to make some joints invisible if you were not going to use the removable roofs.
