Preliminary Events List
Boardgames
For those who have not tried the new Battle Cry game, I will have a copy available for guys to try out. This is a great, fun little game using little plastic minis (I’m planning on eventually making a set with a felt hex mat and 15 mm minis). This is a great way to introduce kids to the hobby. ACW Bill runs it in 54 mm at Little Wars and other Chicago-area cons and always has a full table. Pity the experienced gamers who play against kids. “Hey Dad, is rolling 11 sixes on 12 dice hard?”
Columbia’s block games make great campaign systems easily adapted to a variety of miniatures rule sets. I’ll have one of their ACW games (maybe both) available. These use wooden blocks to hide unit strength and identity from your opponent. I have used the Napoleonic version to run a campaign (doing strategic movement on the map, then fighting the battles with miniatures).
Pocket Gettysburg
Not yet ready for prime time but I got several e-mails asking me to bring this with me. I am making a Gettysburg map at 1 cm = 100 yards. I’ve got a blog-like recount of the project here.
Friday AM
- Bitter Angels: I will once again be play testing my Bitter Angels game system, based on Grande Armee. This will be another small scenario for 2-6 players, designed to teach and test the game system.
It is 1864 and a small, but veteran force of Confederates attempt to hold off a much larger Union force to buy time for the main army to escape (fictional teaching scenario).
Friday Afternoon
- Brice’s Crossroads: Dean West is running this scenario using his tactical rules currently named “Billy Yank.”
Friday Eve
- Bayou Bourbeau: GM by Jerry Stefek,

Saturday Afternoon
- Johnny Reb vs Fire & Fury Regimental: We are going to run a comparison of JR and Fire & Fury Regimental game systems. We will run the same scenario twice, once using Johnny Reb and once using Fire & Fury Regimental. FnFR is new and JR players may want to take a look and see how it stacks up. This will be the F&F game, followed immediately by the JRIII.
- Battle of Spring Hill GM: Robert Sprague
CANCELED Saturday Dinner Break
- John wrote to tell me he had to cancel at the last minute. Maybe next year!
John Hill will be doing a presentation on a new set of miniature rules he is working on. The rules are derived from his upcoming Gettysburg boardgame and will have a ground scale of 1” = 100 yards, and regiments will be made up of two stands.

- "Second Battle of Memphis," Forrest's raid on Memphis in August 1864. I'm still working on the details, but it will probably be 8 to 10 players with small commands. GM: Kermit Hilles
